For senior Joselynn Musolf, the regional meet for Brighton High School’s equestrian team wasn’t just about competing for ribbons or doing better than other competitors but giving everything she had to practice her craft and support her teammates.
The meet was held at the Shiawassee County Fairgrounds on Sept. 26 to 28, 2025. It brought many different equestrian teams from Croswell to Owosso and was a difficult competition for the Brighton equestrian team, which ultimately placed fourth, just missing qualifying for the state competition. However, Musolf found it to be an exciting and defining moment for her.
“Making it to regionals was such an exciting moment, especially during my senior year,” Musolf said. “It showed me how hard work really pays off.”
Competing in both the timed event and cloverleaf, Musolf delivered a solid performance by placing ninth and tenth place, respectively.
However, ribbons and placements fade faster than important memories, and that goes for Musolf as well. Musolf’s favorite moment at regionals will outlast any ribbon or performance, as it has to do with family.
“My favorite memory was running barrels with my family there cheering me on—they made me feel like I could do anything,” Musolf said.
That is a moment that will live far past any score, ribbon or competition.
Looking ahead, the equestrian team has more ahead of them for next year’s members who decide to join the equestrian team.
“Competing is so much fun, so chase your dreams because you might not get the same opportunity again,” Musolf said. “Ride hard, give it everything and enjoy every moment!”
Even though Musolf is a senior and won’t be able to compete with the team next year, she has been able to help shape the future team that she has already been with for two years.
“I’m sad I won’t be on the team again,” Musolf said. “I’ll always be grateful for the memories we made together.”
