“I just happen to know I am the most important person in this play,” said Tyler Atkin, otherwise known as Robin Hood, to a crowd of spectators scattered throughout the Brighton Center for the Performing Arts.
Brighton High School’s production of The Somewhat True Tale of Robin Hood was featured in the BCPA November 1 through 3. The comedy had the audience laughing and interacting with the play and its characters.
The production took a unique twist when its stage managers, Kelsey Dunn and Dawson Niclosovich, aided the characters and their stories by interacting with the them and being referenced throughout the play.
The Somewhat True Tale of Robin Hood was brought to life by the directors, Sonja Marquis and Kristine Stuenkel, and its leading characters Robin Hood, played by Tyler Atkin; Lady Marian, played by Mia Weinraub; the town’s person, played by Rory Oginsky; Prince John, played by Drew Guerin; and Sheriff of Nottingham, played by Erik December.
Mia Weinraub shared her thoughts about the play and the experience she had along the way. Weinraub said her favorite part about the play was “definitely the people there.”
“You are like a little family in this play, and I made so many new friends that were freshmen,” she said.
The play had long hours and required dedication and time; however, Weinraub revealed the positives in joining theater.
“I would say you join the play/theater because it’s a great experience. You’ll really learn a lot about yourself, and you’ll learn a lot about your potential,” she said. “I joined play because I have been in theater since I was little, like since I could talk. I always wanted to continue doing that, and I’m going to continue doing it throughout my life.”
Mia Weinraub also said how the play challenged her.
Weinraub said, “It’s definitely a little bit of a challenge. It was, for me, a challenge because I had to balance a different play, school and then that play. It was definitely a lot to take on, so just be prepared for that.”
The next production that BHS Dramatic Arts is hosting is the musical Anastasia. This will include singers, actors, dancers, props designers and backstage helpers to make the production come to life. The musical will be in May 2025.
