There is quite the controversy surrounding the month of November. Some people have their Christmas trees decorated and their stockings hung with care. Others refuse to hum a single note of Jingle Bells. It all comes down to one question: does the Christmas season start after Halloween or after Thanksgiving?
Aubrey Blush thinks that the only way to celebrate Christmas is right after Halloween. This way maximizes the amount of Christmas joy brought to everyone. Plus, November is a very dreary month. It is usually raining; some days are cold, while others are warm. Christmas gives everyone something to look forward to, especially because it is the time of year where everyone doesn’t want to go to school or do anything because of the weather.
Agreeing with Aubrey, Alexis Alford said, “It helps me get into the mood. Plus, Christmas music is the best genre of music.”
Astin Myers said, “Christmas smells like fun, joy, and whimsy, and I love the Christmas-related treats.”
Gabby Giorgio believes the Christmas season starts after Thanksgiving—more specifically, December first. She absolutely loves Christmas and the holly-jolly feelings that come along with it; however, Gabby feels that love will dissipate if she celebrates the holiday for over two months. The songs will grow old and the lights too bright. October has Halloween, November has Thanksgiving and December has Christmas. She will appreciate the joys of Christmas when the time comes and not a moment before.
Some of Gabby’s classmates agree with her viewpoint.
Ezzie Martin said she starts celebrating Christmas on “December first so that [she doesn’t] get sick of it.”
Nimrie Ramsdell said, “You can start celebrating Christmas the Saturday after Thanksgiving and up until New Year’s. The time before that is for Thanksgiving, and the time after that is for New Year’s.”
The results from an Instagram poll conducted by The BHS Times declared Gabby as this week’s winner. The poll demonstrated that 44% of people start celebrating Christmas after Halloween, while the other 56% wait until after Thanksgiving. Maybe Aubrey will win next week, but probably not—at least that’s what Gabby thinks.
