Elected in the 2024 election, the newest members of the school board are Trustee Katie Tierney and Trustee Alicia Urbain, both of whom have lofty goals this year for the Brighton Area Schools School Board.
Tierney ran for school board this year, and in her words, it was a “natural step for me because, as a parent, I have a deep love and commitment to the future of our children.” With that belief, Tierney is working to promote a proper learning environment with opportunities for all students.

Similarly, Urbain said that she wants to “ensure that every student receives the best education possible.”
When asked about the key goals of the school board members, Tierney said that her goals are “creating a well-functioning, collaborative team that always prioritizes the best interests of our students and district.”
She believes that creating a cohesive district is an important factor for the education of all students. Another important goal for her is fiscal responsibility; she said, “It’s essential that we make thoughtful, strategic decisions about how to allocate resources, ensuring every dollar spent is an investment in the future of our students.”

To her, those goals will create an environment where students will grow both academically and personally.
One of Urbain’s priorities is increasing reading proficiency. She said that “our current 64% 3rd-grade reading proficiency is unacceptable, and we need to work harder to improve these outcomes.”
Like Tierney, she also finds fiscal responsibility important. Both new board members want to prioritize getting students the best education and personal development possible
