Brighton High School’s Mr. Moore has been recognized for his dedication to both education and service, earning the prestigious American Legion Teacher of the Year award. This honor is awarded to educators who have not only made a lasting impact in the classroom but have also served in the U.S. military.
Before becoming a teacher, Moore served in the United States Army. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve from 2008-2014, earning the rank of sergeant as an airborne military police officer.
Since transitioning to teaching, Moore has become a beloved figure at Brighton High School, known for his engaging lessons, mentorship and commitment to his students. He currently teaches AP Macro and Micro Economics as well as U.S. History and is the defensive coordinator for Brighton’s football team.
The American Legion Teacher of the Year award is given to educators who have served in the military and continue to make a difference in their communities through teaching. Moore was nominated for his ability to inspire students, his leadership within the school and his dedication to instilling values of service and citizenship.
Moore said it “means a lot. It’s an honor to be nominated and ultimately selected for the award by people I very much look up to and respect.”
Looking forward, Moore hopes to continue making a difference, not just in academics but in shaping the next generation of leaders.
“[I] feel it gets more challenging each year, so you constantly have to be innovative and find new ways to inspire students,” he said.
