Brighton High School’s junior varsity football team had a strong season this year, finishing with a 6-3 record, the only losses being against Hartland High School, Northville High School and Howell High School. Two out of the team’s five wins were shutouts against Novi High School and Plymouth High School. The team closed out the season with an impressive 56-6 victory against Fordson High School in their KLAA crossover game.
Over this season, the JV football team grew stronger as they went through the season together.
“I think the team bonded at the beginning of the season; after the Hartland game, I think the team came together,” freshman Ben Hansen said.
Not only did the JV players develop a strong team dynamic on the field, but they also forged bonds as teammates.
“I want to remember this team as a team that really came together, and everybody accepted everybody,” sophomore Hudson Haglund said. “And we were all just able to build off each other and make each other better.”
Football is a very time-consuming sport with all of the practices and workouts before the season starts. To take some of the stress off before the game, “listening to music, getting in my zone and just vibing off the guys in the locker room, everybody just getting in a good mood” is the way that Haglund prepared for a big game.
What started as different friend groups eventually came together to make one team. The JV players looks forward to next season to improve their skills and to possibly become a part of the varsity team.

BHS’s freshman football team was undefeated this year, finishing with a 9-0 record. Seven out of the nine wins were shutouts against Dexter High School, Novi, Hartland, Plymouth, Salem High School and Howell. The team closed out the season with one last shutout game against Fordson in the KLAA crossover, winning 50-0.
“My favorite moment from this season was beating Howell,” freshman Logan Moore said.
For all of BHS’s football teams, Howell is typically the biggest game of the season. However, the freshman team was the only team that beat Howell this year, winning 28-0. The rivalry between the two schools always brings out the best in both teams.
Football can be a very demanding sport with all of the practice, weight training and games every week. It is important for the players to have somebody who inspires and motivates them throughout the season.
For Moore, his dad is his biggest inspiration both on and off the field.
“He’s always telling me I got to put in work if I want to get better at football. He always influenced me, telling me I’m not good enough or if I had a great game,” Moore said.
“My team and my coaches keep me motivated during a tough game,” freshman Cash Von Buskirk said.
With that kind of a season, it’s clear that the team’s chemistry played a big role.
“I thought that through the year we got stronger and better. We got tougher, and we just kept rolling,” Moore said.
This team showed that success isn’t just earned during the games, but it’s built through dedication and teamwork. With this undefeated season under their belts, this team has set the bar high for the years to come.
The team should be remembered as “hard-working and dedicated,” Von Buskirk said.
