On February 26, 2025, Brighton High School hosted a talent show for the citizens and students of Brighton. Featuring seventeen acts, from singing to group performances, the night was full of excitement.
Not only was the talent show designed to present the extraordinary talent at Brighton High School, but it was also created as a way to help fund this year’s prom. The Junior Class Council got to work and put on a wonderful show.
The talent show was a way for students to express themselves through the art of performing.
When asked how she felt about her performance of her hit single, Infatuation, junior Violet Von Buskirk said, “I loved being in the talent show; it was so much fun! I have performed Infatuation quite a few times, but getting to play for a crowd of people who mostly don’t know me was really fun.”
Von Buskirk mentioned the highlight of the night for her was watching the other students perform on stage, as “there were a lot of fabulous acts, and [she] had an awesome time watching.”

Along with the singing acts from the talent show, many people did other acts. Junior Rory Oginsky performed a dancing solo on stage. Oginsky described the experience as “amazing.”
“I loved it! The stage is like my second home, and being able to share my art is so healing to me,” she said.
Both performers were asked if they would perform in another Brighton High School talent show if given the opportunity. Von Buskirk said, “I would absolutely do the show again next year! I would highly recommend auditioning for the talent show. Performing is a lot easier than it seems, and putting yourself out there to try it won’t hurt!” Oginsky also said that she would plan on participating again.
Sophomore Class Council President Seth Ameel said that he was motivated to participate in the talent show both out of duty and his love for performing.
“I love the piano and wanted to share my music,” Ameel said. “I am also class president, and it’s my responsibility to contribute to school events.”
At the end of the night, the winners were John Gira in third place, Violet Von Buskirk and Mason Gay in second place and Vaan Otto in first place.
Out of the class council battle for the Golden Goat, the Sophomore Class Council won, winning the hearts of the judges by doing a rap act that complimented the judges and playfully slandered their competition.

The talent show was ultimately a success in raising money for this year’s prom.
