As the boardercross season hits its midpoint, the team sees growth, grit and unforgettable moments on the mountain. Their training has turned into high-speed races filled with confidence, determination and trust in one another. Every competition so far has pushed riders to sharpen their skills and adapt to the unpredictable nature of boardercross.
One of the defining aspects of this season has been the way boys and girls train and compete together, constantly pushing each other to ride faster, cleaner and smarter. From start gate strategies to line choices through jumps and turns, teammates have become each other’s greatest motivation. Progress hasn’t come without challenges, but each setback has been met with resilience and a drive to improve.
Races so far have brought everything from nerves at the start gate to adrenaline through every feature on the course. Riders have battled changing weather conditions, different course changes and the mental challenges of staying focused under pressure. Whether it ended in a podium finish or a hard-earned lesson, every race has contributed to the team’s growth and confidence heading into the second half of the season. Senior Luke Johnson said his proudest moment of the season so far was “probably winning.” One of the team’s standout achievements came when freshman Luke Johnson captured the West Indy Finals title, marking a major highlight of the season and adding momentum heading into the final stretch.
Beyond results, this mid-season point has highlighted the strong energy within the team. Wins are celebrated together, losses are learned from and every rider plays a role in creating a supportive and competitive environment. With more races ahead, the team is focused on contributing to improve while holding onto the shared love of snowboarding that brought them together in the first place. Zach Butler, a junior, said he’ll miss “just being with everyone, communicating and being around with everyone.”
As the season continues and comes to an end, the boardercross team is ready to build on everything learned so far, such as carrying speed, confidence and commitment into the races ahead.
