After an exciting season of growth and wins, the varsity boys basketball team played a hard battle in their playoff game, falling just short in a 43-41 loss to Fenton on Feb. 27, 2026. The game stayed tight from start to finish, but a basket by the opposing team sealed the outcome. Brighton proved to be one of the state’s most complete three-point shooting squads in the state, highlighted by an incredible 63% performance behind the three-point line against Riverview. The team ended with a record of 14-7, beating out competitors like Novi, Northville and Howell. They started out strong, winning multiple games in a row; though they faced more hurdles in the middle of their season, the team managed to end on a strong note, winning their last four games before ending their season at the MHSAA District Final.
Seniors Brandon Lovejoy and Dylan Edgeworth demonstrated a steady presence all season, with an average of 10 points per game for Lovejoy and 12 points per game for Edgeworth, both providing consistent leadership on top of their dominance on the court.
For Lovejoy, the season meant more than just numbers. As a senior captain, he described the experience as his “last ride” and something he had always dreamed about. Off the court, he made it a priority to support his teammates as captain academically and personally.
“That’s what we are as a team,” he said.
Over the years, the sport has taught him the importance of resilience.
“You can’t linger on one mistake; you’ve got to keep going,” Lovejoy added.
Another senior captain, Ty Langenderfer, faced a challenging season after suffering a leg injury midway through the year. The setback required extensive physical therapy and created a mental hurdle as he worked his way back. Despite being sidelined, he continued to support his teammates through tough games and remained a strong leader on the team. Having played basketball since he was three years old, Langenderfer credits basketball for shaping who he is today.
“It’s given me the principles to work hard and gain friendships that will last a lifetime,” he said.
