Many students enjoy finding ways to volunteer in the community, whether it is for organizations like the National Honor Society or in their own free time, but finding ways to do this can be stressful for students who don’t have the time to reach out to a bunch of places in order to do community service. Community Impact Club is a club that aims to help out with this. The club members organize group outings where they volunteer together, frequenting places like retirement homes, combining community service with camaraderie.
“We just wanted opportunities where different kids from our high school could get involved in already preorganized volunteer events,” senior Macy Martin, one of the founders of the club, said.
Martin and her friend Ava Foran, also a senior, started the Community Impact Club in 2024 as juniors. They had around 60 members in their first year, and this year they have even more. The group also has a lot more connections with different organizations, allowing them to explore different opportunities when it comes to volunteering.
On Nov. 12, 2025 the club went to Independence Village, an assisted living facility in Brighton, to hang out with the residents. They played many card games with the residents, including euchre. Junior Samantha Burns said that she believed the event went really well.
“It was great to get to meet [the residents], and I’ve always kind of wanted to go and reach out and help with the elderly community,” Burns said.
The ability to help give back in the community means a lot to people for different reasons. Some do it because they want to, some because they need volunteer hours for NHS or other service-based organizations. No matter the reason, the Community Impact Club is all about helping make the community a better place and giving back to it.
“It means to me that you’re doing something for others, not just yourself, and you truly are making an impact on other people around you,” Foran said.
