Friendsgiving. It’s a special tradition that brings friends together to celebrate and be present with each other. I think it’s one of the best new traditions our generation has created. It’s not just about dressing up or making the perfect turkey. It’s about gathering with the people that actually get you—the friends that make life feel lighter. Unlike the other holidays that come with expectations and stress, Friendsgiving is a celebration that we create for ourselves, which is why it makes it feel so significant. There’s something special about intentionally carving out time to be with each other, slow down and appreciate the people who add color to our worlds.
The magical part of Friendsgiving is the effort we put into the experience. From the decorations, carefully chosen dishes and aesthetically set-up food table, it reflects our celebration for each other. The shared effort and attention to detail enhance the joy of simply being in each other’s company. At its heart, Friendsgiving is about gratitude. It reminds us that family doesn’t always have to be the one we’re born into; it can also be the people we choose to hold close. While most holidays celebrate time with your direct family, Friendsgiving gives us the opportunity to celebrate the friends that celebrate our accomplishments, support us during the hard times and never fail to make us laugh.
Ultimately, what I’m trying to say is that Friendsgiving is so meaningful because it is chosen. It is a space of warmth, connection and (of course) yummy food! In the chaos of dressing up, taking pictures, and decorating, we do more than create a lovely evening—we honor the friendships that sustain us. The most important traditions are the ones that we make ourselves, with intention and consideration for each other. It’s a tradition to cherish, and it gives us a reminder that joy is most often found in the simple act of gathering together with those who matter most.
