Walking the halls of BHS, one can see many different fashion trends worn by students. These trends and outfits vary with the time of year and season. As colder weather and the season for rest and comfort approach, students’ outfits are being influenced by one idea in particular: fall fashion.
Students draw inspiration from a variety of sources, from their peers to social media. For junior Leona Williams, it’s an especially close one—her family.
“My mom’s always kind of just been a very big fan of fall and always has had cute fall outfits,” Williams said.
Williams said her fashion inspiration has been “passed down to her” and “very much inspired [her] to dress like [her] mom.” For her, fashion isn’t just a desire to follow current trends but a relic of her family and heritage.
Students’ fashion can also be inspired by their interests, such as music, movies or sports. Junior Noah Due said “snowboarding” inspires his fashion, as well as “just wearing fleeces.” Whether it is a trend, something their friends are wearing or a reflection of the activities one engages in, many students view fashion as a way to express themselves throughout the halls of Brighton High School and the world.
Many students draw inspiration for their outfits from social media. Senior Presley Hill said that “comfort and Pinterest” are some of her biggest inspirations when it comes to choosing what to wear. Comfort and staying in the fall spirit are also important to junior Aoife Hall, who said she is inspired by “the colors and baggy pants” associated with autumn. With cold weather rolling in and schoolwork amping up as students approach the second semester, many students are opting for more comfortable clothing. However, this does not stop students from showing off many fall staples around the school, like sweaters, quarter-zips and boots.
For many students, fashion and trends ultimately allow them to express a sense of identity through their clothing and experiment with what they wear throughout the seasons. Many students at BHS enjoy participating in fall trends, whether to be cozy and relaxed or to dress up, creating a diverse fashion scene throughout the halls.
